Amex Business Gold swaps FedEx for UPS.com in its $20 monthly flexible credit
From 1 October 2026 the American Express Business Gold Card's flexible business credit no longer covers FedEx. UPS.com shipments now qualify instead, alongside Grubhub and US office supply stores. Enrollment is still required, and UPS Store counters do not count.
If you used the Amex Business Gold's monthly credit on FedEx shipping, that stopped working on 1 October. American Express has put UPS in its place, so the credit still has three places to land, but the fine print on the new merchant is narrower than it looks.
What changed
Frequent Miler reported in May that FedEx would drop out of the Flexible Business Credit after 1 October 2026, with no replacement named at the time. On 1 October, Doctor of Credit and Upgraded Points both confirmed the replacement: UPS.
| Until 1 Oct 2026 | From 1 Oct 2026 | |
|---|---|---|
| Credit amount | Up to $20 a month (up to $240 a year) | Unchanged |
| Eligible merchants | FedEx, Grubhub, US office supply stores | UPS.com, Grubhub, US office supply stores |
| Enrollment | Required | Still required |
The UPS fine print
Per Upgraded Points, only small parcel shipments paid for directly on UPS.com with your enrolled card count. That rules out a lot of ordinary UPS spending:
- The UPS Store and UPS Access Point locations
- UPS My Choice
- Parcel Pro, UPS Air Cargo and UPS Supply Chain Solutions
- Third-party shipping resellers and intermediaries
If your business ships through a platform that buys UPS labels on your behalf, assume it will not trigger the credit.
What to do
- Check your enrollment. The credit does not apply automatically; enroll online or through the number on the back of the card.
- Move one shipment a month to UPS.com if FedEx was how you used the $20. A credit that resets monthly is only worth $240 if you use it every month.
- Otherwise, default to Grubhub or an office supply store. Both are unchanged.
We have also removed FedEx from the Business Gold's benefit line in CardPolo's catalog. Wondering whether the card's fee still pays for itself for your spend mix? Run the numbers in Polo Match or ask Polo Brain.
