Chase Sapphire Reserve for Business caps 3x on advertising at $1M a year from 15 November
From 15 November 2026 the Sapphire Reserve for Business earns 3x on social media and search advertising only on the first $1 million per account anniversary year, then 1x. The Edit hotel credit doubles to $1,000 from 1 January 2027.
The one uncapped bonus category on Chase's top business card is getting a ceiling. Chase announced two changes to the Sapphire Reserve for Business on 17 September 2026: a cap on advertising earn, and a bigger hotel credit.
What changed
| Before | After | |
|---|---|---|
| Social media and search advertising | 3x, no cap | 3x on the first $1 million per account anniversary year, then 1x (from 15 Nov 2026) |
| The Edit hotel credit | $500 a year, paid as two $250 credits | $1,000 a year from 1 Jan 2027, paid as four $250 credits |
AwardWallet, One Mile at a Time and Doctor of Credit all report the $1 million cap and the 15 November start. AwardWallet and OMAAT both give 1x as the rate above the cap, and AwardWallet reports the annual fee is unchanged.
How the cap year works
Per AwardWallet, Chase defines the first cap year as the period from 15 November 2026 to your next statement that carries the annual fee, then every 12 months after that. Advertising spend before 15 November does not count toward the $1 million.
The Edit credit keeps its existing rule, per OMAAT: bookings through The Edit by Chase Travel, with a minimum two-night stay.
Who should care
- Spending well under $1 million a year on ads? Nothing changes for you in practice, and the credit gets bigger. This is a net gain.
- Spending more than $1 million a year on Meta or Google ads? Everything above the cap drops to 1x. Doctor of Credit notes Chase announced this to the media rather than through a public cardholder notice it could find, so read your mailed terms when they arrive.
- Can you use $1,000 of Edit hotel stays? The credit only has value if you would book those hotels anyway. Count only what you would spend without it.
Heavy ad spenders should now compare this card against uncapped options on a like-for-like basis. Polo Match ranks cards on net annual value after fees, and the points calculator shows what your Ultimate Rewards are worth.
