Chase adds \"Invest Your Points\": Ultimate Rewards can now be cashed into a J.P. Morgan investment account at 1 cent each

Chase announced on 16 September 2026 that Ultimate Rewards points from Sapphire, Freedom and Ink cards can be redeemed for cash to invest in an eligible J.P. Morgan Self-Directed Investing account or an advisor-managed taxable account. The rate is 100 points to $1, the same as a plain cash redemption.

Chase has added a new way to spend Ultimate Rewards points. It is called Invest Your Points, and it sends the cash value of your points into a J.P. Morgan investment account. It sounds new. The value is not.

What Chase announced

In a press release dated 16 September 2026, Chase said eligible cardmembers can redeem Ultimate Rewards points for cash to invest in:

  • an eligible J.P. Morgan Self-Directed Investing account, or
  • an eligible taxable investment account managed with a J.P. Morgan advisor.

Chase names the Ultimate Rewards earning cards as the Chase Freedom, Chase Ink and Chase Sapphire portfolios. For Self-Directed Investing customers, the option is available now in the Chase Mobile app and on Chase.com. Once the cash lands, you choose what to buy.

The rate: 100 points = $1

Doctor of Credit and Upgraded Points both report the redemption rate as 1 cent per point, so 100 points buys $1 of investing cash. That is the same rate you already get redeeming points as a statement credit or a deposit into a Chase account.

A few limits worth knowing:

QuestionAnswer from the sources
Which accounts?J.P. Morgan Self-Directed Investing, or an advisor-managed taxable account
Retirement accounts? Not mentioned by Chase; Doctor of Credit reports Roth accounts do not appear to be eligible
Better rate for premium cards?None stated; the reported rate is a flat 1 cent per point
Minimum redemption? Not stated in Chase's release

Is it worth using?

For most people, no, and there is nothing here you could not already do. Redeeming for cash at 1 cent and moving that cash into a brokerage account yourself gets the same result.

The real comparison is with the other things your points can do. Transfers to airline and hotel partners, and Points Boost pricing on Chase Travel for Sapphire cardholders, can each get you more than 1 cent a point when you use them well. Upgraded Points puts strategic transfer value at around 2 cents. If you would take cash anyway, investing it is a fine place to send it. If you would book travel anyway, book the travel with points and invest the cash you saved.

One recent reason to think harder before transferring: Chase is cutting the Hyatt transfer ratio for Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred holders, covered in our Chase to Hyatt post.
