ICICI launches 1838 Reserve: an invite-only ₹1.75 lakh card with 3% domestic rewards and zero forex
ICICI Bank's 1838 Reserve, issued with Times Internet and Visa, is now live on ICICI's site. ₹1,75,000 plus GST every year with no waiver, 3% back on domestic spends, 2% on international, zero forex markup, and a monthly cap of 1,00,000 points.
ICICI Bank's most expensive card is now official. The 1838 Reserve, issued by ICICI in association with Times Internet and Visa, has its own product page on ICICI's site, and the terms have moved from teaser to fine print. Every figure below is read off that issuer page unless we say otherwise.
The headline terms
| Term | What ICICI states |
|---|---|
| Joining fee | ₹1,75,000 + GST |
| Annual fee | ₹1,75,000 + GST, every year |
| Fee waiver | None, at any spend |
| Domestic spends | 3% back as reward points |
| International spends | 2% back as reward points |
| Forex markup | Zero on all international spends |
| Overall reward cap | 1,00,000 reward points per month |
| Utility, telecom, government, tax, education, insurance | Combined cap of 10,000 points per month |
| No points on | Fuel, rent, e-wallet loads, EMI transactions |
| Add-on cards | Not issued |
| How to get it | Invitation only, via a Relationship Manager or the interest form |
With GST the fee works out to ₹2,06,500 a year. There is no spend at which it is waived, which puts this card in a different category from most Indian premium cards, where the fee is effectively a spend target.
The rewards math, honestly
At 3% on domestic spends and zero forex, the card returns real money, but the fee is the hurdle. Before counting any benefit, you need about ₹69 lakh of domestic spend in a year for 3% to cover ₹2,06,500. The monthly 1,00,000-point cap and the separate 10,000-point cap on bills and taxes bound how fast heavy spenders can get there.
ICICI's page does not state what one point is worth when redeemed, so the "3%" is ICICI's own framing of the earn rate. Card Insider's launch write-up describes the cap as per statement cycle; ICICI's page says per month, and we go with the issuer.
What the fee buys instead
The pitch is lifestyle access rather than earn rate. ICICI lists these with its own stated values:
- Welcome: an overnight stay at a Lohono Stays Platinum Villa (₹50,000), a Tata CLiQ Luxury gift (₹25,000), and a Klook museum experience for two (₹7,500).
- Memberships: The Quorum Club with 280+ private clubs in 52 countries (₹3,00,000), a Crib Life concierge (₹1,00,000), Harrods Gold Tier status (₹1,00,000), ALL Accor+ Explorer (₹20,000), and four Truefitt & Hill services a year, one per quarter (₹49,600).
- Travel: 50% off a companion's business class ticket when you book one, once a quarter, up to ₹50,000 off; one chauffeur airport transfer per quarter at select locations; two fast-track security entries at select international airports; unlimited visa assistance; an ITC stay at three nights for the price of two.
Two things are missing from ICICI's page and we do not assert them: lounge access (Card Insider mentions limited business class lounge access; TapNow says there is none; ICICI's page does not mention it) and the reported eligibility thresholds for relationship value and income, which no fetched ICICI document states. A stated value is what ICICI says a benefit is worth, not what it is worth to you.
Who this is for
If you would not pay for a Quorum Club membership, a concierge and Harrods status on their own, most of the listed value does not apply to you, and the card has to win on 3% and zero forex alone. Most people who spend heavily abroad will get better net value from a card whose fee is waived on spend.
