Citi and American Airlines announced a refresh of their two mid-tier co-brand cards on 27 October 2026: the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard and the Citi AAdvantage Business World Elite Mastercard. The details below were reported the same day by The Points Guy, which quotes executives from both Citi and American, and by Upgraded Points. We have not yet found the changes on a Citi or American page, so treat the fine print as reported until the card terms update.

The fee

Both cards reportedly go from $99 to $150 a year. Existing cardmembers pay the new fee at their first renewal after 24 January 2027, which is also when the new benefits start. The $0 introductory fee for the first year stays.

Is the extra $51 worth it?

For most cardholders, probably yes, if you use two things: the $100 inflight credit, plus a Global Entry or PreCheck renewal every four years. The inflight credit alone covers the increase if you buy food, drink or Wi-Fi on board. The new 2x categories are modest; 2x AAdvantage miles is fine, not exceptional, and the 3x applies only to hotels and cars booked through American's own portals. If you keep this card only for the free checked bag and rarely buy anything on board, the fee rise is a straight cost.

You have until your first renewal after 24 January 2027 to decide. Check whether a different travel card fits your spend better with Polo Match, or compare the value of AAdvantage miles against flexible points on the transfer partners page.
