Swiggy HDFC Bank Credit Card is being phased out: what the auto-migration to Ornge means
HDFC's own migration FAQ confirms the original Swiggy HDFC card is being retired in phases. If you do not pick a variant in time, you are moved to the lifetime-free Swiggy Ornge card, with a new card number, a reset renewal date and no carried-over mandates.
The original Swiggy HDFC Bank Credit Card is on its way out. HDFC Bank's card migration FAQ, published on hdfc.bank.in on 30 September 2026, says the card "is being phased out" and that holders are being asked, in batches, to choose one of the newer Swiggy variants. If you do not reply in time, HDFC chooses for you.
What HDFC confirms
Everything in this section is read directly off HDFC's migration FAQ.
| Question | HDFC's answer |
|---|---|
| Default if you do not choose | Migrated to the Swiggy Ornge HDFC Bank Credit Card |
| Fee on the migrated Ornge card | Lifetime free |
| Notice before your migration | At least 30 days, by SMS and email, with a tentative date |
| When the old card stops working | Earliest of: first transaction on the new card, 60 days after migration, or the old card's expiry |
| Activation deadline | New card closed if not activated within 37 days of issuance |
| Card number | Changes |
| Switching back | Not possible; the old card is discontinued |
| Renewal date | Reset to the migration date |
| Autopay, e-mandates, standing instructions | Not carried over; re-register them |
| Card controls (limits, international use) | Not carried over; set them again |
| Cashback queries on the old card | Up to one month after the new card is issued |
| Welcome benefit on Ornge | A coupon for 1 year of Swiggy One, valid for a year from issuance |
Only active cards are migrated. A blocked card is skipped, and cards already upgraded to Ornge or BLCK are not part of this process.
What you give up by defaulting
The bigger question is the earn rate, and HDFC's FAQ does not state it. Card Maven's comparison (27 August), which we have not matched against HDFC's Ornge MITC, reportedly puts it this way:
- Swiggy Ornge: Swiggy food, Instamart and Dineout drop to 5% cashback, and the 5% bucket's cap is reportedly shared between Swiggy and online spends.
- Swiggy BLCK: keeps the higher Swiggy rate but reportedly carries a ₹1,000 plus GST annual fee.
So the trade is simple. Ornge keeps the card free and cuts the Swiggy rate; BLCK keeps the Swiggy rate and charges a fee. If most of your spend on this card is Swiggy, run the numbers before the default picks Ornge for you.
What to do now
- Watch for HDFC's SMS and email. The 30-day notice is your window to choose. HDFC's FAQ also asks you to check spam folders, since some holders say they missed it.
- List your mandates. Every autopay, subscription and standing instruction on the old card has to be moved by hand to the new card number.
- Activate within 37 days. An unactivated migrated card is closed under RBI rules, and your old card will stop working within 60 days anyway.
- Expect the fee clock to restart. If you pick a fee-bearing variant, its renewal cycle runs from the migration date, not from when you first got the Swiggy card.
