Amex Business Platinum limits 2x shipping and the wireless credit to named companies from 17 February 2027

From 17 February 2027 the American Express Business Platinum Card earns its 2x shipping bonus only on purchases made directly with seven named shippers, and the up to $10 monthly wireless credit only on bills paid directly to 11 named US carriers. It is the same narrowing Amex announced for the Business Gold a week earlier.

A week after American Express narrowed two of the Business Gold's 4x categories, the same treatment has reached the Business Platinum. Amex has written two changes into the card's own terms, both effective 17 February 2027, and Doctor of Credit and Frequent Miler reported them on 23 October.

What changes on 17 February 2027

Both lines on the Amex terms page open with "Effective February 17, 2027" and say eligible purchases "will be limited to purchases made directly with" a named list.

BenefitFrom 17 Feb 2027, only purchases made directly with
2x at US shipping providersUPS, FedEx, United States Postal Service, Auctane, DHL, Worldwide Express, Old Dominion Freight Line
Wireless credit (up to $10 a month)Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Frontier, Comcast, Charter, Spectrum Mobile, UScellular, Optimum, Ultra Mobile, Mint Mobile

Auctane is the company behind ShipStation and Stamps.com, so postage bought through those tools should still count, as long as Auctane is the merchant that bills you.

What does not change

Per the same terms page:

  • The 2x structure stays: 2x on up to $2,000,000 of eligible purchases per calendar year across four categories (US construction material and hardware suppliers, US electronics retailers and software and cloud providers, US shipping providers, and purchases of $5,000 or more). Only the shipping category is being narrowed.
  • The wireless credit stays at up to $10 per month per card account, still needs enrolment by the Basic Card Member or an Authorized Account Manager, and still excludes Google Fi, third parties, resellers, hardware and bundled TV or internet services.

Who loses

  • Anyone on a smaller carrier. Frequent Miler names US Mobile, Boost Mobile and Total Wireless as examples now outside the list; Doctor of Credit readers add Tracfone. That is up to $120 a year of credit gone if you stay with them.
  • Businesses shipping through regional couriers, freight brokers or third-party label platforms that are not on the list. Those purchases fall back to the card's base earn.

If your phones are on Verizon, AT&T or T-Mobile and you ship with UPS, FedEx or USPS directly, nothing changes for you.

What to do before February

  1. Check who actually bills your wireless plan. If the merchant name on your statement is not one of the 11, the credit stops posting from 17 February.
  2. Check how your postage is billed. A label platform that charges you under its own name may not count, even if the parcel travels by UPS.
  3. Recount the card's credits before your next renewal, since every benefit you cannot use shifts the fee math.
